“LEADERSHIP THROUGH LEGACY” – A FOX LAKE SCHOLARSHIP

SCHOLARSHIP FUND CRITERIA 

Presented by the Fox Lake Preservation Foundation Mission: To advocate for the preservation and protection of the African American cultural heritage and the natural and built environments of Fox Lake, through educational programming, fundraising, and community outreach.

 

I. Name of Scholarship: “Leadership Through Legacy” A Fox Lake Scholarship sponsored by the Fox Lake Preservation Foundation, a 501(c)(3).  

 

II. Purpose of Scholarship: To provide financial support to an ambitious student pursuing post-secondary education or vocational training.

 

III. Applicant Criteria:

a. A student of African American descent must exhibit leadership skills

b. Resident of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, or Ohio  

c. Proof of acceptance to and/or attendance at a post-secondary school before Scholarship Funds are released to attend the school of choice

d. Preference given to applicants with Fox Lake family connection or referral

 

Eligible Institutions:

a. Two-Year Community College

b. Four-Year University

c. Vocational Trade School

Award Components:

a. One Time  

b. One Recipient

c. Fixed Amount $1,500

 

Application Components

a. Essay: Brief educational plan and career goals for the future, typed and written not to exceed two pages.

b. Two letters of recommendation: school counselor, teacher, administrator, church clergy, organization or club facilitator, employer

c. Official Transcript of Grades

d. Personal Characteristics: personal interest or hobbies, community service, honors/awards, employment history, clubs/organizations affiliations

e. Zoom Meeting with Scholarship Committee or Representative: required, time and date to be determined by committee

c. All other requested applicant components should be sent via Certified Mail to:

Application Period: Closes July 1, of the year before school starts.

NOTE: The Application and all other Components of the scholarship application must be completed, submitted, and received by July 1, of the year before school starts for consideration.

 

X. Scholarship Award Notification and Distribution

a. Recipient of Scholarship award selected and notified no later than August 1, of the year before school starts.

b. Scholarship Award distributed directly to school of acceptance.
